Program Details - Equine Assisted Learning
Our Learning with Horses program follows the Cartier Farms Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) model and curriculum. There is no riding involved. Our Youth EAL programs are delivered in a six to twelve week series of learning activities for groups of up to ten youth, ages 10 to 18 years.
Each weekly session lasts for 1.25 hours. Five horses and several facilitators support the youth in the program.
Our Burnaby focused program takes place at Burnaby Equestrian Centre, 9080 Avalon Avenue, Burnaby, BC.
How the program works:
Each week, after an introduction to the day's learning objective, youth work in small teams with horses through exercises and games that require communication, teamwork, problem-solving and confident leadership. Each week builds on the lessons and skills of prior weeks.
Our calm and experienced horses provide instant, honest feedback in the process. Our trained EAL facilitators stay close to the action and support the learning.
Each session concludes with a large group debrief that allows for personal reflection and for celebration of accomplishments. Time is also spent just being with the horses, brushing them and learning about their care and well-being.
Our partners recruit and support youth to attend. To enquire about registering a youth to participate, you can contact:

Workshops -- custom designed for your group
Equine assisted learning is a great approach that can be tailored as needed. It works with everyone, regardless of age, education, background or abilities. Previous horse experience or confidence with horses is not a requirement!
